SUO Challenge 71, Favorite Retiring Sets – Our Top 3!

6 / 3 / 136 / 3 / 13

Once again, thank you all for your delightful entries celebrating your favorite retiring or retired Stampin' Up! Stamp Sets.  Here we are at the beginning of the new year, many of us waiting breathlessly for our first order from the new catalog.  But we also love to go back and look at past favorites – even if they're from the near past!

So many of you received votes from our Design Team this time around it was hard just to pick a Top 3.  But we did, and here they are!  Just click on the pictures if you'd like to read more about their projects on their blogs.

Gloria Steger.  We all loved all the details on this card – it's a great all-around card, even if Gloria did call it Christmas in May!  The soft coloring is lovely, and the whole design makes for a very clean-looking card!

Shanna Gaff. We loved the use of the Vellum and how it softens the coloring behind the sentiment.  One of our design team members offered, "It's always better with Vellum!"  Such a lovely color combination, too!

Gayle Wheeler.  First of all, I think that little bird is so darned cute – it's got to make anyone who looks at it smile!  We also loved the free-form hills, and the use of the retiring Clouds Embossing Folder, just embossing a part of the sky.  Overall a delightful picture!

SUO Challenges 70, Butterflies – Our Top 3!

5 / 20 / 135 / 20 / 13

After we posted this challenge, it was almost a week before I made anything with other than Butterflies.  They really do add so much to greeting cards and other projects!

Thanks to all of you who entered this challenge – there are so many great ideas for using Stampin' Up!'s Butterfly products that I'm sure many of us will be using a lot going forward.  But, as always, we do have to select our Top 3 entrants – difficult this week as it always is!

So please enjoy once more the creations of our Top 3 Designers for this latest SUO Challenge!

Kathy Tanner.  We all loved the chalkboard technique and the way that Kathy colored the butterfly so softly that it looks right at home on the chalkboard.  This is a beautifully laid out card, with great use of the space.

Fiona Whitten.  The butterflies definitely take center stage as they dance across this card!  You really do have to go to her blog to see the store front that inspired this card.  We really loved how Fiona caught the same feeling as on the store front, and all the colors that she used to make this card.

Gloria Steger.  What a fun design – and all the colors that she used make this just a gorgeous work of art!  And, with all the beautiful details, including the white embossing, Gloria definitely made the butterfly the focal point of the design.

SUO 69, Anything Sizzix – Our Top 3!

5 / 6 / 135 / 6 / 13

As I often say when I go through our entries at the end of every challenge, "Wow!  What a great variety of fabulous projects!"  And so it was this week when all that we asked of you was to use something that Stampin' Up! has had in its Sizzix Collection.   You all did a wonderful job of showing off just how diverse the Sizzix line of products is!

So here is my favorite part of every challenge – naming our Top 3!  And thanks to all of the rest of you, many of whom got multiple votes for the top 3.  We love ll your projects!

Stef Perry.  There are so many great details in this card that really do make it a, "Wow!"  We all agree that Stef did a fab job highlighting the Baja Breeze background and one of us even offered up a sigh that we're going to lose this color that's a favorite of many of us.  The Sizzix texture throughout this card along with (did I mention this before) all the great details give it a lovely vintage-antique feel.  Just lovely!

Vicki Parson.  It's always fun to have a 3-dimensional project as an entry, and Vicki did this one up beautifully.  The colors are so much fun with all the various Sizzix details in the project.  We especially like how the flowers mask where the handle ends meet the box.  Fun project!

Julia Quinn.  We just couldn't resist this beautifully-embossed Vellum – such a nice job with it all centered on the project!  The layered ribbons are beautiful and the perfect accent for the embossing.  The addition of the paper doily is a striking accent for this soft and elegant card!

SUO Challenge 68, Just Stick to One Color, Please – Our Top 3!

4 / 22 / 134 / 22 / 13

Not as many of you as usual were interested in our challenge to make a monochromatic project.  But, wow, did you all submit some wonderful! projects! The vast majority of those who entered projects in this challenge got at least one vote from our Design Team.  So you know we had a hard time coming up with our Top 3!

So here they are and congratulations to all!  You can click on their photo to go to the blog post about their entry.  The Top 3 can pick up the sidebar code for their blogs over at the left.

Sue Rowe.  Sue said that she is going to miss Baja Breeze in the Stampin' Up! color collection and she showed this favorite color off with a stunningly beautiful design.  We were so impressed with the dimension and detail of the central flower on this card, and the Netting background gives just the perfect amount of texture to everything in the foreground.  So much elegance in a clean and simple design!

Chris Smith.  Chris said that she is going to miss River Rock in the Stampin' Up! color collection, and she, too, certainly showed us all why she likes to use it! What an elegant design with the doily and butterflies and the way Chris combined the River Rock with her background color.  And there is so much dainty elegance in the texture that she used with all of her layers.

Fiona Whitten.  We all loved the reverse design that Fiona made with her sponging of the Sizzix doily design.  It's especially effective with the dark to light tones, and with the punched butterflies landing perfectly on the edge to show off the color!
